Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how MapMarked ("we," "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our website and services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us:
- Account information: your email address and a password (stored securely in hashed form) when you create an account.
- Content you create: the addresses, locations, and palette choices you enter to generate maps.
Information collected automatically:
- Usage data: how you interact with the Service, such as maps generated and downloaded, and timestamps used to enforce daily limits.
- Device and log data: IP address, browser type, and similar technical information, collected automatically by our hosting and analytics providers.
- Cookies: we use cookies that are necessary for the Service to function, such as keeping you signed in. We may also use analytics cookies to understand how the Service is used.
We do not collect payment information, because the Service is currently free.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the Service, including generating and delivering your maps
- Maintain your account and keep you signed in
- Enforce usage limits and prevent abuse
- Send you transactional emails (such as account confirmation and map-ready notifications)
- Understand and improve how the Service is used
- Respond to your questions and support requests
- Comply with legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Third-Party Services
We rely on trusted third-party providers to run the Service. These providers process certain data on our behalf:
- Hosting and infrastructure — to run the website and store data
- Database and file storage — to store account data and rendered maps
- Email delivery — to send you account and map notifications
- Map data — addresses you enter are processed to generate maps using OpenStreetMap data and geocoding services
- Analytics — to understand aggregate usage of the Service
Each provider has its own privacy practices. We share only what's necessary for them to perform their function.
4. Map Data
When you enter an address or location, that information is sent to geocoding and map-rendering services to produce your map. Map data is provided by OpenStreetMap contributors under the Open Database License. Please avoid entering sensitive information you would not want processed by these services.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. We retain generated maps and usage records as needed to operate the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal reasons.
6. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:
- Access the information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your information
- Object to or restrict certain processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. You can also delete your account at any time, which removes your associated personal data as described above.
If you are in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA/CPRA respectively. We honor these rights for all users where applicable.
7. Cookies
We use cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the Service (for example, to keep you logged in). We may also use analytics cookies to measure usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling necessary cookies may prevent the Service from working properly.
8. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including secure password storage and encrypted connections (HTTPS). However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed at children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access it from outside the U.S., your information will be processed in the U.S., where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, provide additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
