Juneau Map Art
Juneau clings to a narrow strip of land between the Gastineau Channel and steep coastal mountains, its street grid compressed into one of North America's most constrained urban layouts. The city splits into two halves—downtown and the Mendenhall Valley—connected by a single road corridor that hugs the shoreline, with the Mendenhall Glacier visible at the valley's northern terminus. Tidewater and forested ridges leave almost no room for expansion, making the waterfront and handful of parallel streets the organizing logic of the entire map.
