Jakarta Map Art

Jakarta's street grid splinters across the Ciliwung River, which cuts diagonally through the city from south to north before emptying into Jakarta Bay. The old Dutch colonial core in Kota sits at the river's mouth, its canals still visible in the street pattern, while the modern CBD towers rise inland on higher ground. Jalan Sudirman and Jalan Thamrin form the main north-south spine, anchoring a sprawl that extends into swampy lowlands where waterways and drainage channels are as critical to the map as streets.
