Cairo Map Art

The Nile carves a narrow green corridor through desert, its valley widening as it approaches the Delta. Cairo's street grid clings to the river's east bank, densest around Islamic Cairo's medieval lanes and the modern grid of Garden City, while the Giza Plateau rises west of the water, home to the pyramid complex. From above, the city's expansion reads as concentric rings of informal settlements pushing outward into the desert, interrupted only by the Agricultural Road running parallel to the Nile.
