Akron's street grid follows the ridgeline of Summit County, with Main Street climbing steeply through downtown toward the highest point in the metropolitan area. The Little Cuyahoga River snakes north through the city in tight meanders, fed by the canal system that once drove the rubber industry along its banks. A ring of rail lines—Norfolk Southern, CSX—still traces the industrial corridors that connected the factories to the river and the Ohio & Erie Canal.
